Below is a glossary of some of the key terms we encounter every day when conversing with lubrication professionals and recreational enthusiasts about the world of industrial rotary lubrication.
Grease Fittings: Small mechanical parts, also known as zerk fittings, used to feed lubricant (grease) into a bearing or other mechanical component under pressure, often with a grease gun. They come in various types, including:
Taper Thread Grease Fittings: These fittings have a tapered thread.
Straight Thread Grease Fittings: These fittings have a straight thread.
PTF Grease Fittings: These include 1/8″, 1/4″, and 3/8″ sizes. PTF stands for Dryseal American Standard Taper Pipe Thread.
Thread Forming Grease Fittings: These fittings create their own threads when installed.
Drive Type Grease Fittings: These fittings are installed by driving them into place.
Button Head Grease Fittings: These fittings have a button-like head.
Stainless Steel Grease Fittings: These fittings are made of stainless steel.
Monel Grease Fittings: These fittings are made of a nickel-copper alloy known for its corrosion resistance.
Leakproof Grease Fittings: These fittings are designed to prevent leaks.
Pressure Relief Grease Fittings: These fittings have a mechanism to relieve excess pressure.
Brass Grease Fittings: These fittings are made of brass.
Vent Grease Fittings: These fittings include a vent.
Flush Type Grease Fittings: These fittings sit flush with the surface they are installed on.
Metric Grease Fittings: These fittings are manufactured to metric standards.
Special Thread Grease Fittings: These fittings have unique thread specifications.
AS Grease Fittings: These fittings are manufactured to AS standards.
British Thread Grease Fittings: These fittings have British thread specifications.
Grease Fitting Caps: These are protective caps for grease fittings.
Grease Fitting Tools: These are tools used for installing or removing grease fittings.
Grease Fitting Kits: These kits contain a selection of grease fittings and related items.
Grease Guns: These are tools used to apply grease through grease fittings.
Grease Gun Hoses: These are hoses used with grease guns.
Couplers: These are used to connect a grease gun to a grease fitting.
Retaining Rings / Snap Rings: Fasteners installed into a groove on a shaft or in a bore to create a shoulder that retains a specific component.
Retaining Ring Kits: These kits contain a selection of retaining rings.
Retaining Ring Tools: These are tools used for installing or removing retaining rings.
Grease Fitting Junction Blocks: These blocks provide multiple connection points for grease fittings.
Fitting Accessories: This is a general category for various accessories related to fittings.
Oil Cans / Spouts / Funnels: These are tools used for dispensing and pouring oil.
Alemite: A brand of grease fittings, with “Alemite Equivalent” also available.
Remote Grease Fitting Systems: Systems designed to move grease points from hard-to-reach or dangerous locations to a more accessible spot, improving safety and maintenance efficiency.
ISO 9001:2015 / AS9100D Certified: International quality management standards that ensure products and services consistently meet customer and regulatory requirements. AS9100D is a standard specifically for the aerospace industry.
Lubrication Equipment: Tools and devices used for applying lubricants, such as grease guns, oil cans, and related accessories.
